THE TRADING TOOLKIT

Make the numbers explicit.

Tools for hypothetical linear XAU/USD positions in a USD account. Enter the specifications for the exact instrument you study.

PRICE DISTANCES · BEFORE COSTS

Reward / risk

Compare a planned target distance with the entry-to-stop distance.

Hypothetical example values are prefilled.

Formula and scope

|Target − entry| ÷ |Entry − stop|. Excludes spread, commission, financing and slippage. This ratio is not a probability of success or an expected return.

EQUITY ARITHMETIC

Drawdown recovery

Calculate the gain required to return to the starting balance after a drawdown.

Hypothetical example: a 20% fall from $10,000.

Formula and scope

Recovery % = drawdown ÷ (100 − drawdown) × 100. Assumes no deposits or withdrawals. A 100% loss has no finite percentage recovery. This arithmetic is not a plan to recover a loss through more trading.

03 · MAKE EXPOSURE EXPLICIT

Linear USD-per-ounce instrument in a USD account. Inputs are manual; this is not a live quote calculator.

100 oz/lot is an example. Replace it with your provider’s specification. Avoid double-counting costs.

Complete the prices and calculate. Changed inputs require a new calculation.

Calculation and limitations

Budget = equity × risk % / 100. Estimated risk per lot = (entry–stop distance + extra execution allowance) × ounces per lot + round-trip commission. Size rounds down on a grid starting at minimum lots, then adding the lot increment.

Assumes proportional costs. Financing, fixed or tiered fees and currency conversion require separate treatment. Actual stop fills can exceed the allowance; this is not a maximum-loss guarantee.

04 · REVIEW THE PROCESS

0 / 4 reviewed. Completion does not validate a trade.
