A global quotation usually expresses dollars per troy ounce. A Dubai shop may quote dirhams per gram and a stated carat. To compare them, keep the currency, weight and purity in separate columns. The conversion is USD per troy ounce multiplied by AED per USD, divided by 31.1034768. That produces AED per gram of fine gold before the product’s charges.
The CBUAE publishes an AED 3.6725 per USD reference for VAT-related obligations and explains its dollar peg separately. Use that reference explicitly when making a benchmark calculation. If a payment processor or dealer converts your money at a different effective rate, enter that rate for the actual transaction. A stable exchange-rate reference does not remove conversion fees.
For a deliberately hypothetical USD 3,000 gold quote and AED 3.6725 conversion, the reference is about AED 354.22 per fine gram. Multiplying by 22/24 gives roughly AED 324.70 per gross gram of nominal 22-carat alloy. These are arithmetic examples, not today’s Dubai prices. A piece with an assay of 916 parts per thousand should use 0.916 rather than substituting 22/24.
Before applying either result, identify whether the weight excludes stones, clasps or packaging and whether the quoted unit already refers to fine gold. Applying a purity fraction to an already fine-weight quotation reduces the content twice. Keep the seller’s exact description, metal weight and documented fineness together. The displayed hallmark, certificate and invoice should refer to the same item. An online calculator can calculate stated content; an assay is evidence about the material itself.
